Guilt-Relieving 5-Part Email CBT-Based Therapy Course Includes This Special Offer
What Is Guilt:
Twisting, gut-wrenching, heavy, both searing and cringing: the feelings that come with guilt can be overwhelming, washing up out of nowhere like a rogue wave at the beach, knocking your knees out from under you. Guilt is a natural emotional response, vital to the maintenance and repair of interpersonal relationships. In contrast, excessive and inappropriate guilt can be a destructive burden for sufferers, leading to intrusive thoughts, depression and anxiety.
Some guilt is situational: it may show up as sadness or anger at a personal failing or regretted action that occurred. Some guilt is more generalised and internally focused, showing up as a deeply painful underlying belief in one's worthlessness or failure as a person. Other times guilt descends as a survivor, emerging through comparison with others, finding ourselves in better, safer, healthier positions than other people but feeling helpless to help.
Guilt vs Shame:
Shame and guilt are often seen as the same thing, as both encompass a belief that we have failed to live up to standards. However, guilt is more likely to be connected with resolvable if only we can find the "right" solution. Shame, in contrast, is more toxic. Shame is an internal belief that one is deeply flawed, a "bad person" rather than a person who did something bad. Shame is also linked to decreasing self-esteem, increasing aggression, or increasingly self-destructive behaviours, and so it is vital that those who suffer seek the support of a therapist as early as possible.
Guilt, the Sneaky Superfuel:
Guilt, unlike it's toxic cousin, shame, contains a secret superpower! Carefully examined and challenged, your guilty feelings can be magically metamorphised into guilt-busting actions that you can let loose in the universe. You can harness that power.
A CBT Approach:
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a therapeutic approach which helps us examine our beliefs, thoughts, and feelings so that we have a better understanding of how our behaviour is affected. As such, it's a great way to self-explore our ideas around guilt, understand them, and perhaps change them.
That's why I've created a free 5-session email series, Let Go of Guilt, to help you explore your experiences of guilt. You'll see how guilt manifests in your life, where it began, and how you can transform that lost energy into positive action!
A Special Offer:
Let Go of Guilt is challenging 5-day program which asks you to dig deep as you work through your struggles with guilt. Because you are willing to put in the work, I've created an extended 45-minute discovery session for program participants. Like the program, it's free - as my thank you for your participation. Visit https://www.angelabennett.com.au/let-go-of-guilt to get instant access to the program.
